Reflection on the last 18 months

Wow, I am almost through this program.  It has been great, and I have learned alot, about computers, myself, schools and how they are managed.
I am surprised at some things.  I am the only person in the MSIT program.  After I graduate, hopefully in December, the program will be temporarily shut down, due to enrollment issues.  I have enjoyed this program, and would not have done this differently.  I have learned how to manage, been given leadership tips, worked with current law and finance issues.

While all districts are surviving budget issues, Milwaukee has been ruthless about theirs.  482 teachers became collateral damage this week, me being one of them.  We have suceeded in role modeling the exact opposite of what we teach:  We teach our children to work hard, do the right thing and be accountable.  We teach that it is honorable to have a job.  Then this hits the press, leaving many people collecting $363 dollars a week for not working.  Adding insult to injury, many of the teachers laid off were successful, bringing achievement up.   It is both sad and pathetic.
I am sad that this came just as I work to finish my degree.  I have 6 credits left....

At any rate, my practicum is coming up, at MPS Central Services.  Which will be interesting.   I am looking forward to seeing how the network is set up, how the communications work, and how the grants and paperwork are put together.  I am going to stay there as long as they will let me.

Then my programming classes.  I am not sure how CSU will handle that aspect yet.

Good luck to all, keep on keepin' on!

Lynn
